    Default Scale to fit issue

8.5 x 11 print file with image to the edge fails to "scale to fit" thru the fiery print driver and thru command workstation 6 attached to a Ricoh 6004 w/E23C controller. This file prints at 100% with a white border edge due to to printer edge restraints and with no reduction in the scale size.
I can "fit to page" a 24 x 36 arch. drawing down to letter size with no scaling problems, which is puzzling. Equipment specs: Ricoh 6004 w/E23c Fiery controller, installed 12.17.
Reinstalled Fiery software system and all patches 1.18 with still no change.

This same file was sent to a another Ricoh 6004 configured with true postscript option only and the scale to fit option performed and printed as designed thru the Ricoh PS print driver.

So it would appear that this is a fiery controller issue??

    Thoughts anyone?

    Hi gawlf18

If your controller is a system 10 or later, read this...

Thank you for the reference thread , but as I stated in the original post this option also does not work thru the print driver.

I suspect the driver has zero margins set in the PPD.
For a quick test, could you do the same test printing via the Ricoh PS driver to the Fiery controller?

    Greta,
Tested "fit to page" function with a Ricoh PS driver with accurate fit to page results.
Tested "fit to page" function with a Ricoh PCL driver with accurate fit to page results.
Both PS and PCL test results would not be a fix or a work around for this issue due to the improper finishing communications to the fiery controller and then to the print device.

This seems to be only a stripped down embedded fiery controller issue along with some newly discovered missing items such as , no trapping, and or APPE.
Cant wait to find out what else has been removed from this fiery controller version.

Does anyone have a matrix of what other functionalities have been removed from embedded fiery controllers not including the software ad-dons?

FYI. External Pro series controller has "Fit to page" along with "Fit to imageable" area.

    Hi Gawlf18,

Many of our drivers have zero margins in the PDD's. This is beneficial for some workflows and documents but not with some other.

If you are trying to utilize the Scale to Fit option in Actobat for example, it will scale at 100% or to the page size. As a workaround or solution could you try using the "Scale" option in the Fiery Driver and scale to 96% or 97%?

    Thank you,
    Bruce

gawlf18 you could use the Pro series controller driver with the embedded controller, if it is for the same engine.
Then you could use the 'fit to imageable area' selection.

Of course this is not officially supported but it will totally work
