PDF embedded in JDF?

We're working on getting a JDF workflow functioning in our workplace. We're sending the JDFs to our EFI Hot Folders that are enabled for JDF input. This leads to my question-

As I understand it, you can embed the PDF you want to print into the JDF or, in the JDF, I can include a reference to the path where the PDF is located. I'm fine using either method, I just don't know how to go about doing it.

I would suggest you start by checking out the JDF specs and sample files provided by CIP4.

Should give you an idea of what's possible through JDF.
