    Default Re-certification of ES-2000

    Hi!

I know that X-Rite recommends a regular re-certification of their devices after using them for 24 months. Do you think that it's really necessary?

For now, I'm using my ES-2000 for about 60 months mainly for calibrating my toner and inkjet based printers and never seen any (obvious) issues so I'm wondering if there is any benefit in sending it in for certification.

Or is there any way to clearly verify the condition of an ES-2000, like buying a certified control strip for comparing the measurement results or something like that.

I'm curious as well, given that calibration uses density measurements and not color measurements.

I wonder how much the recert specs are defined due to color accuracy vs density accuracy.

Yes, but as I'm also profiling roughly one new media type every few weeks, this could also be affected.

After all, I just wanted to make sure, it's not only some kind of "marketing feature". I know that it's absolutely understandable to keep such a key component as vital as possible but I would rather re-certify those devices whenever their specs go out of range instead using a fixed maintenance schedule.

I realize this is an EFI forum, but couldn't the same question be extended to all such devices (e.g., KM FD-5 and FD-9)?

Well, I guess it is still related to CPS somehow
But don't the KM spectros do have an embedded control strip for that kind of self validation?
