    UPDATE:

I have received a work around from a Xerox Technical Sales Specialist for large Postscript files that have static page booklets (ie 70,000 booklets made from four 11x17 impressions).

On the VDP tab on the file properties on the Fiery Command Workstation, select “Define Record Length” then the field to the right of this option I entered the amount of impressions, and the printer then made a booklet out of every four 11x17 impressions.

This works fine if every booklet is the same amount of pages, but will need a variable page booklet solution for any future jobs that we may receive.

For variable length booklets, use setpagedevice commands inside your Postscript stream.

    Default Try mixed media

Most Fiery's have the ability to define ranges for finishing, e.g staple pages 1-5, 6-10, etc. This is defined in Mixed media, in the driver.

You could use the 'print to PS file and compare output' method you described above to detect the PS code output of using Mixed media.

    Just a suggestion.
