Is anything in the works to be able to process ppml files for variable data processing?

What do you want JobFlow to do with the PPML file?

The same thing it would for anything else. Run through a predefined workflow to check for errors, impose and use presets to get a variable project set up with the least amount of clicks as possible.

Until the PPML file is processed through a PPML RIP (really Postscript RIP with PPML extensions), it doesn't really describe a page or pages per se. There isn't anything for a JobFlow (Pitstop) server to check for errors until the processing happens, and then the RIP checks for some errors--but not artwork issues.

You can automate a VI job using the tools inside CWS, with imposition and presets; that doesn't require JobFlow in the least.

If you need to check/preflight your artwork before you compose the PPML project, then you need something that will do that and let you have the artwork back for VI composition afterward. JobFlow isn't that tool, from what I know.

JobFlow is a PDF tool, while PPML is Postscript.

Job flow is a work flow tool. The file type ultimately should be irrelevant. How or what is processed isn't the question, the question is what can we do with the software to help our operations work better. Having the ability to check a PPML and or any other alternate but similar format is still critical in any workflow where the potential for an error can still occur at the printing level.

Maybe someone else has an answer.

Other than checking for errors, the automation you described is easily managed for any file type directly by CWS and its various pieces (Impose, etc.).

If JobFlow is a tool for PDFs, and what you want is for it to be a tool for other file types (like I said, PPML is Postscript-based), then the only "other answer" is to ask that JobFlow be changed to handle those file types.
