What actually happens when you pick Xerox GCR -- to C or J series printers?

Xerox now offers Xerox GCR, a new feature that conserves toner usage and improves the Xerox C75/J75 environmental footprint while maintaining image quality and productivity. This is introduced by a new set of patches for the EX Print Servers. Each print server has three patches. One patch for the print server, a second patch for the Windows drivers, and a third patch for the Mac drivers.
Once installed, the print server and print drivers will show a Xerox GCR checkbox that will enable / disable the use of Xerox GCR. With it disabled (default value), the print server will produce the same profiles as a system without the patches installed. With it enabled, the profiles will produce output that changes the output profile to reduce toner usage while still producing high quality output.
The intent is that these patches will be installed in Managed Print Services accounts and these accounts will manually have the Xerox GCR selection enabled. Other accounts could decide to install and use Xerox GCR as well.
